Patterson Park Lantern Parade

Folks, we’re only 10 days away from my daughter’s favorite holiday: Halloween. Baltimore, a beautiful city year-round, always seems to truly blossom during this festively spooky season, and is already embarking on a calendar of local events—art fairs, outdoor markets, movie nights, festivals and block parties—that makes every day a celebration. Today, I thought I’d let you all know about one of my favorite local traditions: the Patterson Park Lantern Parade.

At the end of October, the Lantern Parade comes to town. This parade is one of the most magical of Baltimore experiences—artists from all across the city come to show off their creations, which range from massive lantern dragons to little bats and Jack-o’-lanterns. As the parade moves through the park, it’s like someone unleashed a mystical menagerie in the city, all aglow with soft colored light, filling the night with life. All the lanterns are handmade by Baltimore locals. Our city is artistic in its bones—there’s nothing more special than an opportunity to see that artistry in action. There are food trucks, games and activities, and even a costume contest (which I hear gets pretty competitive). If you’re looking for a festive way to celebrate the season, I’d highly recommend it!

The 2025 Lantern Parade (aka the Great Halloween Lantern Parade) will be taking place in Patterson Park on October 25. The festival portion—food trucks, live music!—starts at 4 PM, and the parade itself begins at 7 PM, once the daylight has faded some. This is one of the best annual local events, and if you’re in the area, I hope you come down and see it.

That’s all from me for today. As ever, reach out to me when you’re ready to start your home transformation! Maybe I’ll see you at the parade!
