Living presently, looking ahead
We’re in the thick of it now, folks—summer, I mean, with all its sunburn and shores—but we’re also over the hill of midsummer and approaching that slow, sleepy, wind-down season of August, where our thoughts begin, gradually, to turn towards the coming fall. Not all the way, of course. We still have this moment and its wealth to live in. But there, on the horizon, in rare turns of the breeze, we might begin to sense it in the air, just around the next bend.
I’m a big believer in living in the moment—after all, what do we have but the present?—but that doesn’t mean I don’t also like to plan ahead. On the subject of planning ahead, today I’d like to chat a bit about looking forward, and what that means for your home redesign.
Though there are a good few months between now and then, the holidays are coming up on our calendars. That’s the time of year when we really ask the most of our homes. Besides wanting them to look their best for our incoming guests, we also test the limits of their functionality: hosting visiting relatives, keeping up with our schedule of brunches and dinners, a step up from the regular wear-and-tear of our usual routine. We begin to consider, in greater depth, the form and function of our home when those holidays roll around. The best advice I can give you? Start considering those things now.
Designing a space can take time. You want to be deliberate, thoughtful—you don’t want to rush or feel rushed, and you certainly don’t want to add on to your holiday stress any more than you absolutely have to. Personally, I recommend starting your designs and selections in mid-August and September. This ensures that you’ve got some breathing room, especially if there could be potential delays in the factory or other uncontrollable factors. But to be honest, it’s never too early to start. The further in advance you pick and order your pieces, the more time you’ll have to kick back and watch your space come together exactly as you’ve always dreamed.
Once the holidays roll around, it can feel like the days and weeks are all tumbling down a steep hill—sometimes it feels like we’re really sprinting on that treadmill, trying to keep pace. Why overburden yourself with managing your home redesign on top of that? Here at Woodside Home, we’ll take care of the heavy lifting—the planning, the layout, the ordering. All you’ll have to do is chat with us for our consultation and review and curate our selections for you. Our process is collaborative—your home should be yours—and simultaneously designed to take the major weights off your shoulders. Redesigning your home should never be stressful. It should feel like a gentle settling, like relaxing, at last, into the space you were always meant to have, a space tailored precisely to who you are. We can make that happen.
Are you ready to make your home yours? Let’s set up a time to talk—sooner is always better than later! We can get your home where you’ve always wanted it to be, in plenty of time for your guests, and you, to savor it.
July, of course, is still upon us, and the summer is in full swing. Keep that forward thinking in the back of your mind. We’re here when you’re ready—and in the meantime, go savor that sunshine. Ideally with an ice cold Arnold Palmer.
